Free Tour of Nuremberg's Old Town

Duration: 2h and 30min
Languages: German, English, Spanish
Quality Verified Registered on May 12, 2020

My name is Claudio and I was born in the longest and narrowest country in the world: Chile. I started traveling through different countries and cities both in America and Europe, getting to know their cultures and customs, until one day I came to Nuremberg. I am passionate about German history and its customs. After reading so much, the following saying fell into my hands: "Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, if you have a dream protect it, if you want something, go for it." From that moment I made the decision to leave the place where I was born, one of the lands that produce the best wines in the world, to adopt Nuremberg, in northern Bavaria, the land of beers, as its new home. I am graduated in accounting and marketing studies. From my own experience as a traveler who wants to know each destination city, I discovered in history and in their stories, my new passion. Now I study German while I continue to unravel the history of Nuremberg. Claudio can be found on your next tour, waiting for all the tourists with a smile and his Chilean way of relating, to show you how beautiful the city is.

Tour description

Nuremberg is a wonderful city full of history. On my tours I want to show you the best of Nuremberg with its customs, legends, typical foods, beers and stories. Live a full experience at the hands of a true connoisseur of the city. The tour begins in front of the Frauenkirche, at the Hauptmarkt. The main market and its history is surprising. Today it is the center of the city and an experience full of flavors, smells and colors of the products that are available there. At noon we will live a unique experience with the Carrillon of the Frauenkirche. The structure tells us about the importance of the city in the Middle Ages, in the middle of the Holy Roman Empire, but it also tells us about the worst historical moments of the 20th century. The Fleischbrücke is our next stop. The beef market and the pork market were of great importance in the Middle Ages, and today they show us the scars of the IIGM. Lorenzkirche is one of the two important churches within Nuremberg. Its construction, destruction and reconstruction is full of interesting details for everyone. In the Museumsbrücke we will be in front of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit, one of the typical postcards of the city. Taking photos along the Pegnitz River is inevitable. We move towards the Bella Fountain that lives up to its name. Did you know that there is a legend around the Fountain that says you have to touch a certain object to get some luck? We will discover it together. The other important church for the city is San Sebaldo, next to its doors we will tell about anti-Semitism in the Middle Ages and how National Socialism later used it to justify its atrocities. Nuremberg was the city of Nazi congresses, we will tackle this black chapter of history and talk about the background and about the famous Nuremberg Trials. We go up the hill to the Kaiserburg, from there I will tell you how it is divided into three and we can have the best views of the city. Next to the Alberto Durero house museum we will talk about this art genius. After the proper recommendations on where to eat the roasted sausages from Nuremberg and drink the best red beer, this wonderful tour ends.
