Land of sugar cane, tobacco and rum. Land of mambo, cha cha cha and salsa, but also land of betrayals and revolutions.
We start in the parade ground. We are right in front of the old La Real Fuerza fortress, now a maritime museum that shows treasures found on the seabed: silver coins. Galleons, sailboats that sailed the Atlantic in search of a new world full of riches.
On the dome of the fortress the statuette of the Giraldilla has become a symbol of the city.
We continue with the Templete, an ancient Greco-Roman temple with samples of old canvases by Jean Baptiste Vermay, French artist, creator of the San Alejandro Painting Academy, showing the first founding mass of the city. Hotel Santa Isabel, former Palace of the Counts of Santovenia, testimony of the first aerostatic flights on the island. The city museum, the former Palace of the Captains General and the beautiful main square. We continue along Oficios Street to the Plaza de San Francisco de Asís near the old port of Havana. We will stop to admire old palaces converted into hostels. Old square and its 18th century mansions; its most illustrious inhabitants. Bars, cafes and private restaurants with excellent traditional and international dishes. Cathedral Square and Bodeguita del Medio. Pass along Obispo Street to conclude in the Central Park.
