Hello! My name is Miljan, born and raised in Budva- graduated in History of Art at La Sapienza University of Rome. Passionate about arts and culture in general. I would be honored to show people Budva from a point of view that they end up falling in love with.
What's to be seen during the tour:
We start our tour at the famous giant bell in front of the old town wall!
The group meets at the famous Budva bell- the meeting is followed by a presentation of the bell, as well as some initial/basic information about the city.
The first "Roman fragment" of the tour includes an explanation of the importance of grandiose architecture for life and the status of Budva as an ancient city.
Passing through one of the main streets of the Old Town in Budva will lead us to beautiful Square of Churches/Square of salt, where tradition meets the modern and tells us a lot about the lifestyle of the people living in our town.
It is very interesting to understand the importance of the habits of the ancient world in Budva as an ancient city, so one of the key factors in "meet" those times is knowing the Roman management of our place. The Roman baths, as one of the factors of the orderliness of everyday life, are today hidden from the public eye, but still there to witness the magnificent history of this urban entity.
What is so unusual about a seemingly ordinary traditional church from the seventh century? We'll find out together right here.
From this wonderful vantage point, we will observe two very important phases in the history of Budva - the Early Christian basilica, as the first significant sacred moment of architecture, as well as the Citadel, the protector of the city through the past centuries.
After the downfall of the Venetian Republic in 1797, Austria allowed the construction of the Church of Holy Trinity at the request of the orthodox population of Budva, supported by the Bishop of Montenegro, and its construction was finished in 1804. We'll get to see the details that make this architecture spectacular.
Here we switch our route towards Budva's modern times for an instant- we get to discover where culture lovers enjoy theater, ballet, jazz and classical music concerts during the summer months.
As an "exit moment" from this magnificent square, we will analyze the architecture of the bell tower of the church of St. John the Baptist, as well as its position during the earthquakes that hit Budva in the past.
On our way to the Square of Poets, we'll make an interesting "pit stop" in order to find out more about an antique hidden gem in Budva.
Poetry is something that has made the culture of the city of Budva sublime since ancient times - for this very reason, such values are preserved in the same place today. In this locality, we will learn more about the connection between the ancient and modern versions of the city- especially when it comes to such a noble dimension of existence.
What is it like to pass through the smallest and at the same time the largest gate of our Old town? What does it mean today and what it meant in the past? Let's find out together!
The foundations of the city, the first traces of importance when it comes to Budva, as well as today's view of one of the first things that marked existence on this coast - the Roman Necropolis is one of the key fragments when it comes to understanding the DNA of this city.
Here I will gladly try to answer all your questions, but also give you useful advices regarding every single thing that would make your stay in Budva more comfortable and more beautiful.
