My name is Fedja. I am a tour guide from 2016 and have a lot of experience with free walking tours as my free walking tour was the first one organized in Montenegro in 2016. I was born in Kotor, Montenegro and lived here my whole life. As a local I know all the secrets our town keeps, local stories, best places to see, hidden gems and best bars and restaurants where local people prefer to go.
A free walking tour told by a local guide who was born and grew up in Kotor. We will visit the old town on this tour, talk about its history and present, many legends and traditions, food and culture, tours and prices, and why Kotor has so many cats.
Required minimum: 5
No additional costs on the tour
(the local tax of 1€ required to be paid for non residents will be paid by the tour guide)
We will meet in front of the Maritime Museum in Kotor.
We start the talking part of our tour just in front of the main gate of the old town of Kotor on the western side of the old town.
Passing through the Sea gate we enter the old town and exit on the main square in Kotor, the Square of Weapons. Here we will spend about 10 minutes talking about Kotor's past, the Venetian republic and few landmarks that can be seen at the location.
From the Square of Weapons we will proceed towards the Cathedral of St Tryphon, but on our way there we will stop to visit one of many local palaces in Kotor, Palace Bizanti. This palace used to be the home of one of most influential families in Kotor's history, today this is a residential building where many local families live, including mine.
After the brief visit of Bizanti palace we head to the Cathedral square to see the biggest attraction and the symbol of our city, the Cathedral of St Tryphon.
From the Cathedral square our group will proceed to the Museum square where we will talk about Kotor's most important tradition, naval trading. Our city has one of the longest sailing traditions in the whole world, and we will talk about it for some 10 minutes in front of the Maritime museum of Montenegro
Our next, very brief stop will be St Lukes square or better known in Kotor as the Orthodox square. Here we will talk about the only Orthodox churches in the old town, St Lukes church and St Nicholas church.
Our final stop on the tour will be in front of the entrance to San Giovanni fortress, on the Square of Wood. Here I will explain how you can get to the fortress San Giovanni and what you can expect to see there. Here we will talk about restaurants and my favorite places where to eat, about transportation, souvenirs and prices, and possibly the biggest attraction of Kotor today, cats.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
