La Boca: tango, color and football

I am 32 years old. I have been living in the San Telmo neighborhood in Buenos Aires for 7 years, a historic area visited by tourists from all over the world. I am a political scientist, writer and teacher. I love to know places and I am a lover of the history and the details of the social processes that make up the urban landscape. Buenos Aires, like none, is plagued by that history that is lived at every step. We must activate that sixth sense to capture the past that materializes in the present through streets, houses, trees, buildings and squares. For all this, I want to be your guide in la "Reina de la Plata". Avanti!

Tour description

La Boca is an inescapable point for all visitors to Buenos Aires. As a classic low and port neighborhood of the city, La Boca saw the magic of tango born in its tenement houses and the passion of the biggest soccer clubs in the country: Boca Juniors and River Plate. Immigration, mostly Genoese, gave the neighborhood a unique style that is completely contrasting with the high-rise Buenos Aires of the downtown neighborhoods. Caminito, icon of the neighborhood and the city, is an attractive and colorful alley on the banks of the Riachuelo. The renowned plastic artist Quinquela Martín made these gray riverside places a place full of life and color, making it an international reference and one of the 10 most photographed places in the world according to Google Maps. On the walk you will visit places such as the ferry Nicolás Avellaneda, the Benito Quinquela Martín Museum, the Vuelta de Rocha, Caminito, PROA Foundation, the Bombonera, the “house of the ghost”, and the Yellow House of Almirante Brown, among others.
