Welcome! My name is Ursina, I am Swiss German and passed my childhood near Zurich, however Lugano has been my home for the last 25 years. Having had a professional background in Hotel and Catering I am multilingual. I would like to share this beautiful city and its surroundings with everyone, and I have created a tour to show the best sites of interest in Lugano and its environment in a cost-effective way. It will be a great pleasure to guide you through a discovery trip of our beautiful city and area. Book your tour and follow me and enjoy this beautiful place on Lake Ceresio with the surrounding Alps.
You will discover an Italian-speaking town with a Mediterranean atmosphere. It was not until 1513 that Lugano became a part of Switzerland and therefore this town is very much Italian, mainly its architecture, the language and the food. We are going to visit the most interesting sights. And last but not least, the most important fresco in Switzerland.
Meeting point The meeting point is at the main entrance of Parco Ciani on via Giocondo Albertolli 1, just opposite of the Lugano Casino. Coordinates: 46.00377, 8.95575 I posted a photo of myself in Lugano, in order to be recognized immediately.
We will meet at the main entrance of Ciani Park and set out for our discovery tour from there. First we visit this beautiful park and will also take a look at the prestigious Villa Ciani from outside.
Church of San Rocco was built at the end of '500 but the facade, in neo-baroque style, in 1909. Inside, along the walls, frescoes of the seventeenth century.
In the Maghetti aerea are located numerous cafés, bars, restaurants, the oldest cinema of the town and nice shops.
The Piazza della Reforma is Lugano's main square and is an inviting place for tourists and locals to relax as they enjoy the many bistros and restaurants. Its main attraction is the Neoclassical town hall. This building was projected by the prolific Italian architect Giacomo Moraglia.
At the Cioccaro square I will explain its history and explain how to reach the Lugano Cathedral at the end of the tour on your own. Here you can also find one of the most beautiful palaces of Lugano, which is called Palazzo Riva.
In this street in the city center you will find historic buildings and modern shops of international brands. Traditional markets of seasonal fruits and vegetables are located in this street. Here you can also shop for gastronomic specialities.
Via Nassa with its 270-meter-long, ancient city arcades, is one of Lugano’s historical streets and the luxury shop destination.
Piazza Bernardino Luini it is the largest square in town and acts as gateway to the traditional core of Lugano. Here you can also find LAC Lugano our cultural center devoted to the stage and visual arts as well as to music. We will also visit Santa Maria degli Angeli church famous for a sixteenth century fresco, that is considered to be the most important one in Switzerland. We want miss to visit the cloister of the old Franciscan convent adjacent to the lac.
Here our tour will end, this place is a strategical point to show you where you can go and what you can do in your free time in Lugano and in its surroundings.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
