Hello, I am Pavel, your guide to beautiful Adjara. I saw this wonderful land for the first time in 2014 and was absolutely charmed by the mountains, the sea, the local cuisine, wine, and people. I like when my guests fall in love with Batumi after city tours and want to retell stories about Batumi to their friends and family. I use a research approach in studying Georgia, relying on original sources - old newspapers and magazines, archival documents, maps, memoirs, travel literature, and historical anecdotes - so my tours are memorable and never boring. You are welcome to join us!
What makes people come to Batumi and be inspired by this place, fill it with meaning, energy, and the fruits of their labor?
This walking tour is a real study because we will go through the places of historical events, movies, significant meetings in the lives of famous writers, artists, political figures, which are reflected in works of art, textbooks, preserved in the memories of the participants of these events and on the pages of old newspapers and magazines.
We will walk through the streets of Batumi's historic center and recall their old names, each of the streets is the story of our little journey back in time: Mariinsky, Tiflis, Adjara, Peterburgskaya, Kutaisi.
You will see the sights of Batumi in a new way: the Cathedral, the Orthodox Church, built by the Greeks, the mosque and the Turkish Quarter, which still conceal many secrets, the ship-house.
After all, the main thing for the real researcher is not What, but Why. Why Greeks, Romans, Mongols, Persians, Ottomans, Russians, Europeans, Britsh always tried to capture and even gain a foothold on the territory of Batumi and Adjara? Why did an entire dynasty have to change its religion just to stay in this blessed land?
